About the Exhibition
When analyzing stories of the past, time and place are always significant. The context in which one views the history of the world around them defines not only the perspectives of today but the perspectives of the next generation. We must understand that in this life, success occurs only when we strive for communal kinship and unity. How we define ourselves and each other is the determining factor of that success.
Beauty Beneath the Blight is not just about Baltimore’s past, but is also about it's present and possible future. Why do we see the inequities in West Baltimore that we see now? What roles do we play in our own communities? How can we use the wisdom of the past in the reshaping of our future?
The Urban Arts Leadership Cohort of 2020 hopes that this exhibit will help the community of West Baltimore answer these questions.
